Black Hills 72, Napavine 48

(Tumwater, WA) The Napavine Tigers had only a few chances to play non-league games and boy did they decide to step up the competition. They faced a 4A and 3A team and now took on a top 3 2A team in Black Hills. In the 1st half the Tigers gave the Wolves all they wanted trailing only b y 5 after the 1st, 20-15. Mollie Olson was on fire for the Tigers and kept the Tigers within striking distance.

The 2nd quarter saw the Wolves try to pull away as Maisy Williams, Lindsay Nurmi and Taylor Patti led the offense combining for 22 of their 34 points. The Tigers were fighting hard in this game and Olson kept up her assault and got help from Melissa Lee. Olson hit a late shot to pull within 4 31-27 with just 4 seconds left to play when Nurmi hit a halfcourt bank shot to extend the halftime lead to 7.

As the 3rd quarter began Lee hit a couple of shots but the Wolves defense collapsed on her and Olson daring anyone else to score which just didn’t happen as Lee and Olson scored 46 or their 48 points. Meantime, the Wolves extended their lead to 14 after 3 with help from Emma Duff’s 6 2nd half points, Nurmi going 7-8 from the line on her way to a team high 18 and Megan River’s half dozen scored in less than a minute putting the game away for good with less than 3 minutes to play in the game.

The Wolves improve to 8-1 on the season while Napavine drops to 4-5. Our Tommy Lowe of Greene Realty Players of the Game went to Black Hills’ Maisy Williams and a shared award for Napavine’s Mollie Olson and Melissa Lee. The ProActive Physical Therapy Play of the Game went to Lindsay Nurmi’s halftime buzzer beater from halfcourt as she banked a 3-ball in to give the Wolves a 7-point halftime lead.
