The Peninsula Seahawks and Gig Harbor Tides renew their longstanding rivalry on Tuesday night as the Seahawks host the Tides in a South Sound Conference matchup between two 3A state tournament hopefuls.

Peninsula went undefeated in SSC play last season at 14-0 as the Seahawks made it all the way to the 3A State title game in Yakima where they fell to Mead 3-1, their only loss of the season (21-1) to end the best season in PHS volleyball history.

Head Coach Katrina Cardinal brings back a good amount of talent from that team, and the Seahawks have started the season 7-3 overall and 5-1 in the SSC. Senior RS Langley Griffin is a highly regarded player in the state and was the MVP of the SSC last season, and her versatility provides a tough matchup for opponents. The Seahawks won two SSC matches last week in 3-0 wins over River Ridge and Timberline, and their only losses on the year are to 4A schools Bellarmine and #1 ranked Puyallup, and a 3-2 loss to undefeated North Thurston.

Gig Harbor is off to a good start this season as well, as the Tides are 6-2 overall and 5-1 in the SCC. Jr Setter and Team Captain Lydia Ward is having a strong season for the Tides as the Gig Harbor coaching staff says she is a fierce competitor and is a great teammate who works extremely hard.

The Tides aim to end a 4-game losing skid to the Seahawks, as first serve is at 7:15 and pregame show starts at 7:00 on NFHS and the Eli Sports Network on the link below.
