Golf’s longest day is quite possibly the most drama-filled day throughout the year. The U.S. Open Final Qualifying brings chaos, drama, unbelievable stories, fulfilled dreams, and heartbreak. To get to golf’s longest day, you must advance from local qualifying. Anyone whose handicap doesn’t exceed 0.4 or who is a professional is eligible to compete in local qualifying. This year, over 10,000 people applied to compete and over 9,000 participated in the local qualifying stage with only 530 players advancing to final qualifying. In final qualifying, 937 players compete across 13 different sites with 68 total spots up for grabs at the 124th U.S. Open, held at the famed Pinehurst #2 in North Carolina next week (June 13-16th). Today, 687 players went at it for 44 spots at our nation’s championship.

Each site is given a certain number of qualifying spots the field competes for. The players play 36 holes to determine who will move on to the U.S. Open. If there are ties, a playoff will break the tie to see who will advance, where the drama escalates even further. The playoff is a sudden-death playoff with one hole being played at a time and whoever has the best score on that hole advances. If multiple players are tied for the lowest score, they keep playing until someone emerges as the qualifier(s). Sometimes multiple players are competing for multiple spots. For example, at the Columbus, Ohio qualifier, there were four players tied for three spots, meaning only one player would be eliminated.

The 687 players competing in the U.S. Open Final Qualifying today ranged from former major champions to a high school science teacher. Here are all of the players who qualified for the U.S. Open on golf’s longest day.
