The Seattle Kraken AHL Affiliate Coachella Valley Firebirds head to Abbotsford with their best of five series tied at one game apiece. Coachella Valley, in their third year of existence aims to return to the Calder Cup Final for the third straight year.
The Firebirds with first year Head Coach Derek Laxdal picked up right where they left off from last season under former Head Coach Dan Bylsma. Coachella Valley finished with 84 regular season points to make the Calder Cup Playoffs.
A two game sweep of the Calgary Wranglers set up a playoff confrontation with Abbotsford for the first time in the team’s infancy.
Abbotsford stole game 1 in Coachella thanks to three first period goals and 29 saves from goaltender Arturs Silovs.
Game 2 witnessed a wild 5-4 overtime game won by the Firebirds on a goal from Jacob Melanson.
Game 3 of the series is scheduled for tomorrow at 7pm in Abbotsford, where the series will play its final three games.
