Game Story in The Daily World
Tumwater 1, Hudson’s Bay 0
(Tumwater, WA) It didn’t take long the T-Birds to take the early lead when just 20-seconds into the match when Gavin Cuoio sent a pass to Lucas Oltion and he drilled it into the back of the Eagles net with a lightning strike goal. This would end up holding for the other 79:40 of the match.
Hudson’s Bay keeper Osvaldo Santos-Lopez was caught off guard right out of the gate but then settled in denying 7 shots and surviving 6 Tumwater corner kicks to hold the T-Birds right at that single goal scored.
The Eagles did score in the 2nd half on a nice break-away by David Jaras-Farias but he got the jump a second too early and was called for offsides taking the equalizer off the board.
The T-Bird defense did ther rest led by Senior Keeper Davyn McGilvrey with 8 saves including 5 in the 2nd half as the Eagles amped up the offense trying to tie the match up. The backline of Dylan Salapu, Grady Harroun and Avery Hartzell also helped intercepting and interupting an aggressive offense by Hudson’s Bay.
Our Thorbeckes MVP went to T-Birds Keeper Davyn McGilvrey with Oltien, Salapu and Cuoio in the discussion. Had the Eagles come back to win their keeper Santods-Lopez would have been at the top of the list along with Angel Villalobos and Liam Eptaimeros.
Tumwater will host WF West on Tuesday at 6pm in the semifinals. The winner will go to the District Championship match and qualify for the State Tournament. Hudson’s Bay falls into the consolation bracket and will travel to Hockinson on Tuesday for a loser out match that kicks off at 6pm.

WF West 5, Washougal 0
(Chehalis, WA) With the season on the line the WF West Bearcats came up big with a burst of offense in the 1st half scoring 3 goals in about a 7-minute period of time. Colin Bradley began the attack scoring in the 15th minute on an assist from Nano Jaimes. The opening goal gave the Bearcats a surge of momentum and usual starter Moi Sanchez Hernandez was coming off the bench as they were using him sparingly while he is getting over an injury.
It didn’t appear Sanchez Hernandez struggled much as he made an immediate impact scoring in the 18th minute on an assist from Braden Newman to make it 2-0. Sanchez Hernandez wasn’t finished and struck again in the 21st and the Cats led 3-0 going into the half.
Washougal got some good work from starting keeper Michael Jehne but he was under attack for a good portion of the game. The Panthers had a couple of good opportunities to get on the board late in the 1st half but could not find the back of the net.
Grant Cowart, Gavin Cowart and Noah Migaki got off some solid shots but the Bearcat defensive back line constantly interrupted runs prior to getting into the final 1/3 of the field and when they did Bearcat keeper Noel Montenegro was a backstop and left the match in the final 10 minutes with a clean sheet.
The Bearcats let it be known there would not be a comeback in this match as Alex Mathuzima scored less than a minute into the 2nd half on an assist from Moi Sanchez Hernandez to quickly make it 4-0. Sanchez Hernandez would then end the scoring and tally the hat trick with the final goal in the 50th minute.
It was an easy choice to make our Thorbeckes MVP, a hat trick and an assist will pretty much get you the MVP of the match every time so Moi Sanchez Hernandez was our Thorbeckes MVP.
Washougal’s season is over and they finish 4-11 for the season.
WF West is now 8-8 on the season and advances to the District Tournament and are guaranteed at least 2 more matches. They begin on Saturday traveling to Hockinson for a 5pm kick-off.
