(Yelm, WA) In a shocking move in Washington state high school football, Jason Ronquillo, longtime Yelm head football coach, resigned from his position on Friday morning. Ronquillo declined to comment at this time.

With just ten days before high school football teams begin spring practices start, the man who built up the Yelm football program into a perennial contender will no longer be walking the sidelines. Ronquillo took the reigns in Yelm in 2013 after a tenure in Hoquiam.

Jason Ronquillo led the Tornados to the 2022 3A state title off of one of the most incredible plays in high school football history by his son, now a Princeton Tiger, Kyler Ronquillo. Yelm would get back to the title game in 2023 at Husky Stadium in a loss to Bellevue. After moving up to 4A and playing in the SPSL last season, Yelm went 7-3 in their first season in the new classification. During Ronquillo’s time at Yelm, the Tornados had a record of 89-37.
