On Friday, the 68th Washington Men’s Four-Ball Championship and the 31st Senior Men’s Four-Ball Championship concluded at Canyon Lakes Golf Course in Kennewick. This is a 36-hole Championship. Four-Ball is a best-ball style of competition, where teams of two play their own ball, and the best score from the pair is recorded.

Reid Hatley from Idaho and Nate Plaster from Spokane teamed up for a two-day total of 17 under par to win the Washington Men’s Four-Ball Championship by two strokes. After the first round, Hatley and Plaster trailed the leaders of Drew Dickey from Port Orchard and Cameron Dubos from Bremerton by four shots. Dickey and Dubos shot 61 on the first day to have the lead at the halfway point. Hatley and Plaster shot a 10-under, 62, which featured a 7-under 29 on the back nine to get the victory. Hatley won the 2023 Men’s Four-Ball Championship, while Plaster won his first-ever Washington Golf Championship.

Sota Nozaka and Jeremy Simanton, both from Kennewick, finished in third place at 12-under. Ben Richardson and Darren Slackman, both from Spokane, were in fourth at 11-under. Jake Easterly from Oregon and Luke Easterly from Sammamish tied for fifth with Colten Kleis from Kenmore and Mark Strickland from Snohomish at 10-under.

In the Senior Men’s Four-Ball Championship, Neil MacLeod and Mike Kennedy, both from British Columbia, Canada, won the title by one shot at 11-under. Dick Cartmell from Richland and Tony Padilla from California were at 10-under in second place.

MacLeod and Kennedy shot 67 on the first day and were two shots back of the leaders. In the second round, a pair of 3-under 33s gave MacLeod and Kennedy a final round, 66. Padilla and Cartmell also shot 66 in the final round, but they had a 68 in the first round.

First-round leaders Ken Wade from Kennewick and Tom Deforest from Richland shot 65 on day one, but their second-round 70 put them in a tie for third at 9-under. Tracy Quickstad from Kirkland and Dan Thacker from Edmonds and Tom Brandes from Bellevue, and Erik Hanson from Kirkland also were tied for third at 9-under.
