(Woodinville, WA) The first round of the Washington Men’s Amateur Championship is complete at Bear Creek Country Club. The low 60 players and ties after tomorrow make the cut for Thursday’s final round. The winner of the Washington Men’s Amateur Championship receives multiple exemptions, including an exemption into the 125th U.S. Amateur Championship at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, California. The top three finishers are exempt into Final Stage Qualifying for the 2026 U.S. Amateur Championship.

Leading the field after 18 holes is Seattle’s Quinn Burwell with a blistering round of 65. His 7-under round is good enough for a three-shot first-round lead. Burwell just wrapped up his junior year at Roosevelt and made the 3A State Tournament last month, finishing T-26. Burwell shot a 2-under 34 on the front nine before going 4-under in three holes on the back nine to help him shoot a 5-under 31 on the second nine. Burwell birdied the 11th, eagled the 12th, and birdied the 13th after playing the fifth through 10th holes at 1-over.

The reigning Washington Men’s Amateur Champion, Woodland’s Dane Huddleston, is tied for second at 4-under with Seattle’s Charlie Kern, Beaverton, Oregon’s Collin Hodgkinson, and Spokane’s Guillermo Polo Bodart. Huddleston is a junior at the University of Illinois, after transferring there this spring from Utah Valley University. Kern is the 2015 Washington Men’s Amateur Championship, and after playing on the Canadian Tour and other mini tours, regained his amateur status and is competing for the first time in three years. Hodgkinson is entering his senior year at Oregon State, while Bodart, originally from Argentina, is a senior at Gonzaga.

Seattle’s Kevin Hollomon and Stanwood’s Conrad Chisman are tied for sixth at 2-under. Tied for eighth are Brett Johnson from Vancouver, Naoki Easterday from Portland, Oregon, and Paul Mitzel from Gig Harbor at 1-under.
