SEATTLE, WA

The Seattle Kraken acquired center Frederick Gaudreau from the Minnesota Wild on Thursday for a 2025 fourth round draft pick.

Gaudreau had three years left on his five year $10.5 million contract.

Frederick’s a versatile skater who plays a strong two-way game. He gives us depth down the middle and has the ability to produce offensively. He’s a player who can be trusted on the defensive side of the puck, especially on the penalty kill. We’re excited to welcome him to the team. – Kraken General Manager Jason Botterill

The move frees up cap space for the Minnesota Wild as mentioned by their general manager Bill Guerin

We’re just trying to create a little more flexibility for ourselves. Freddy’s an A-plus human being. He played great for us, he’s a good guy. It was a tough call to make because I know he loves it here and he’s got family connections and everything, but he understands the business side. And like I said, we just wanted to create a little more flexibility and the deal sounded right for us. Seattle was interested in him. They see the value in him. Freddy’s a good player and that’s really it. It’s kind of been in the works for a couple weeks. – Wild General Manager Bill Guerin

Seattle marks the fourth team Gaudreau will have dawned the sweater for after stops in Nashville, Pittsburgh, Minnesota, and now Seattle.

This continues an already aggressive summer for General Manager Jason Botterill and the Seattle Kraken. The 2025 NHL Entry Draft is tomorrow at 4 p.m with the Kraken picking 8th overall. ESN will provide updates on the moves of the team from the deep in the days to come.
