(Colorado Springs, CO) Belfair’s Mark Knowles headed to Colorado to play The Broadmoor (East Course) this week to play in the 45th U.S. Senior Open. Knowles failed to make the cut after a birdieless first round of 81, 11-over, and a second round of a 5-over 75. Knowles finishes the championship at 16-over, which puts him outside of the cut.

Knowles made the U.S. Senior Open by advancing through both stages of qualifying. In Local Qualifying, Knowles shot 72 at Meridian Valley Country Club in Kent to be one of 14 players to advance to Final Qualifying. In Final Qualifying, Knowles was at Bend Golf Club, where only three spots were up for grabs. Knowles, along with Tom Greller, the brother of Michael, who is the caddie of three-time major champion Jordan Spieth, and New Zealand’s Richard Lee, advanced to the Championship. Knowles shot a 1-under 71 in Bend, three shots behind Lee and one shot over Greller.

There’s a three-way tie for the lead, as Padraig Harrington, Stewart Cink, and Mark Hensby are all at 6-under through two rounds of action.
