SEATTLE, WASH
The Seattle Kraken began free agency by signing former Stanley Cup winning goaltender Matt Murray and defenseman Ryan Lindgren.
The deal for Murray was a one year $1 million contract. Murray last season for the AHL Toronto Marlies recorded a 10-5-4 record with a 1.72 GAA and .934 save percentage.
Murray was the starting netminder during the Pittsburgh Penguins 2016 and 2017 Stanley Cup victories. After his time in Pittsburgh came to an end, Murray’s career arc took stops in both Ottawa and then Toronto. His time since his stint with Pittsburgh, has been affected by plenty of injuries. The Kraken hope to change Murray’s career trajectory with rendering him an opportunity in the Emerald City.
The former multi Stanley Cup champion is anticipated to play a role in mentoring goaltender Nikke Kokko of Coachella Valley, the Kraken AHL affiliate.
Matt’s a veteran goalie with a proven track record of winning, he’s a two-time Cup champion who gives us depth in goal. We’re excited to have him join our team. -Kraken GM Jason Botterill
Seattle also signed defenseman Ryan Lindgren to a four year $18 million contract.
Lindgren played for both the New York Rangers and Colorado Avalanche last season scoring four goals and tallying 18 assists. Two of the those goals came after he was traded to Colorado in the 18 regular season games he played with the Avs. He also dished three assists in the playoffs for the Avalanche.
Ryan’s a heart-and-soul player who competes every shift, He does whatever it takes to win and has been a key fixture on the penalty kill throughout his career. We’re excited to welcome him to the team. – Jason Botterill
