Yesterday, United States Ryder Cup Captain Keegan Bradley named Gary Woodland as his final vice captain for this year’s Ryder Cup. Bradley previously named Jim Furyk, Kevin Kisner, Webb Simpson, and Brandt Snedeker as the other four vice captains.

Woodland has never represented the United States at the Ryder Cup, but has played in the Presidents Cup in 2019. Woodland’s biggest win came at the 2019 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach, where he won his only major up to this point, denying Brook Koepka from winning three U.S. Opens in a row.

In 2023, Woodland announced he had a brain lesion and underwent brain surgery in September of that year. Woodland’s playing career was in jeopardy, but he has made his return to the PGA Tour and finished T2 at the Houston Open. Woodland has made the cut in the last two weeks at the Travelers Championship and Rocket Classic. The PGA Tour honored the Topeka, Kansas native with the 2025 PGA Tour Courage Award.

There’s a good chance Woodland will have a lot more extensive role as a vice captain this year. With Captain Keegan Bradley sitting ninth in the points standings, he could be a playing captain. The top six players in the points standings after August 17 will make the team, with the Captain’s picks taking place after the Tour Championship.
