(Walla Walla, WA) Today is the Championship Match of the 123rd PNGA Women’s Amateur Championship from Wine Valley Golf Club. Australia’s Jazy Roberts went up against Rocklin, California’s Anika Varma to decide the title in a 36-hole match.

It was even through the first two holes, but Jazy Roberts took an early 1 Up lead by taking the 3rd hole. Anika Varma bounced back by winning four of the next five holes to flip the match, taking a 3 Up lead. Roberts responded by claiming the 9th hole to go 2 Down. Varma went back to 3 Up after winning the 12th hole, but two holes later on the 14th, Roberts won it to go back to 2 Down. Roberts took the 18th hole to go 1 Down, heading to the second 18 holes.

Varma won the 20th hole to go back to a 2 Up lead. Roberts tied the match by winning the 21st and 23rd holes, but Varma grabbed the lead back on the 24th hole. Roberts won three holes in a row on the 26th, 27th, and 28th holes to take a 2 Up lead. The next six holes were tied, which put Varma in a spot where she had to win the final two holes to continue the match. The pair tied the 35th hole, and Roberts would win the 123rd PNGA Women’s Amateur Championship 2 & 1.

Roberts is ranked 92nd in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR). The Aussie lost the championship match in the North & South Women’s Amateur Championship 2 & 1 last month. Roberts is from Victoria, Australia, the second smallest state in Australia. With the win, Roberts has earned an exemption into the 125th U.S. Women’s Amateur at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Oregon, from August 4-10. The Eli Sports Network will have full coverage, including on-the-ground coverage for the final few days next month.
