(Powell Butte, OR) Vancouver’s Rick Corkill has advanced from qualifying to the 70th U.S. Senior Amateur Championship. Corkill had a wild round that ended with an even par 72 and co-medalist honors. Only two spots were up for grabs, and Happy Valley, Oregon’s Pat O’Donnell also shot 72 to advance. Both Corkill and O’Donnell shot 37 on the front nine and 35 on the back nine.

Corkill was 1-over through four holes after a bogey on the 3rd hole, but bounced back with a birdie on the 5th. Corkill bogeyed 6 to drop back to 1-over. When Corkill made the turn, he birdied the 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th holes to get to 3-under. After a bogey on 14, Corkill was still in the driver’s seat and returned to 3-under with a birdie on 16. A double bogey on the 17th hole quickly brought Corkill down to 1-over. Corkill bogeyed the 18th, but his six birdies from earlier in the round helped him stay at even despite finishing 3-over on the last two holes to earn a trip to the 70th U.S. Senior Amateur Championship.

The U.S. Senior Amateur Championship is going to be held in San Antonio, Texas, this year at Oak Hills Country Club. The Championship will take place from August 23-28. The course is unique as both the 9th and 18th holes are par 3s, and it recently held the 2024 U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Championship. The U.S. Senior Amateur Championship will be held at Seattle Golf Club in 2027.
