Professor DW’s two-day All-Star Challenge has come and gone and it ended in a never-before-seen event in what was a swing-off to decide who would win the 2025 MLB All-Star Game. While it would be the National League getting the win thanks to Kyle Schwarber’s incredible performance, it would be Roy Clark walking away with the win for Professor DW’s contest.
With an emphasis on the Home Run Derby, Roy had a great start as he predicted Cal Raleigh to defeat Junior Caminero which is exactly what we saw take place on Monday night. Those were the only two correct semifinalists Roy chose correctly so while he accumulated 9 points, the door was left open for a handful of contestants that also chose The Big Dumper to win the derby.
Like many others, Roy played it safe and chose a single for the first hit which gave him another point. He also correctly chose the National League to score the first run and win the game while nailing the stolen base question of 3 successful stolen bases in the game.
If the American League would have won the swing-off to complete the comeback, there would have been a four-way tie for first with Skip Smith, Marcus Sledge, and Jared Kickner all choosing the American League. Brent Rooker would have likely been named the MVP with a three-run home run during the game and a two home run performance in the swing-off. Since he was a DH on the roster, Skip Smith would have won in that scenario, but a zero posted by Jonathan Aranda and a perfect round by Kyle Schwarber sealed the deal for Roy.
We did have to go to the first tiebreaker for a three-way tie for second and third and that was how many total hits and runs there would be in the All-Star Game. With the Price is Right rule in effect, Skip guessed 20, while Marcus played it safe with a guess of 12 and Jared going above both with 22. The correct number was 30 which made nobody go over and gave Jared second and Skip third while Marcus just missed the cut for the prize pool.
As the grand prize winner, Roy wins two tickets to see the Seattle Mariners take on the San Diego Padres in Seattle on Wednesday, August 27th at 1:10pm and $100. With the second place finish, Jared wins $50 and Skip wins $25.
Professor DW did not have a great showing with a total of 8 points, finishing in the middle of the pack. While his heart was with Cal Raleigh for the Home Run Derby, his head was with Byron Buxton and we all know that DW should not follow his head.
