(University Place, WA) Chambers Bay, the host of the 115th U.S. Open, played host to the Final Qualifying for the 125th U.S. Amateur Championship. Only six players advanced from this Final Qualifying site to the U.S. Amateur Championship. The U.S. Amateur Championship is being held this year at another former U.S. Open venue, The Olympic Club in San Francisco, California. Chambers Bay will host the 2033 U.S. Amateur Championship.

Canada’s Wyatt Brook took the medalist honors by carding a four-under 67. Through his first 12 holes, Brook only recorded two pars, and finished with five pars in his last six holes. Brook opened up with back-to-back birdies before a bogey on the third hole. He quickly recovered with another birdie on the par-5 fourth hole, before dropping a shot on the fifth. After consecutive pars on the sixth and seventh holes, Brook rattled off five straight birdies to get to six-under on the round. Brook faced trouble on the 16th hole, a 392-yard par-4, where he double-bogeyed the hole, but he still managed to shoot the round of the day and secure a spot in San Francisco.

Canada’s Joshua Ince was in second place, with a three-under round of 68. Ince birdied the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth holes to help him advance to the U.S. Amateur Championship. Buckley’s Zachary Miller shot a two-under 69, which put him in solo third for the day. Miller played steady golf with only two bogeys on the front nine and playing the final 12 holes bogey-free. Gilbert, Arizona’s Rylan Johnson fired a one-under 70 to secure a solo fourth-place finish and a trip to California.

Four players finished at even par in a tie for fifth, meaning there would be a four-for-two playoff. Tualatin, Oregon’s Robbie Ziegler and Portland, Oregon’s Jack Dukeminier advanced from the playoff to secure spots in next month’s championship. Ziegler shot a one-over 37 on the front nine, but back-to-back birdies on 10 and 11 helped him get a one-under 34 on the back. Dukeminier had a nightmare start with a double bogey on the first hole, but rallied excellently with four birdies on the front nine to shoot a one-under 35 and fired a one-over 36 on the back.

Landon Banks from Tualatin and Walker Lamb from Bothell are the two alternates, who were also in the playoff. Five players were one shot out of the playoff. The course played nearly four-over with a scoring average of 74.88. The hardest hole was the 14th hole, a 493-yard par 4, which saw an average score of 4.64. There were only four birdies and 18 bogeys or worse on the tricky par 4. The easiest hole on the course was the 545-yard par 5. The field feasted on the hole, with an average score of only 4.62. There was one eagle, 20 birdies, and only six bogeys. The second and 12th holes also played under par, while the third and 18th holes played exactly even par.
