Recap of UFC Fight Night: Dolidze vs Hernandez
Eryk Anders vs Christian Leroy Duncan: Middleweight
Christian Leroy Duncan gets the knockout victory against Eryk Anders in round one. After committing two fouls early to start the fight, Duncan got off to a hot start with thudding leg kicks to Anders’ inner thigh. Duncan continued to pick apart Anders and would stun him with a flying knee into a right hand. Anders shot for a desperation takedown, which he secured, but not for long. Duncan found his way back up to his feet and landed great clinch strikes to Anders against the cage. After separating, Duncan continued to chew up Anders’ legs and then baited him into a spinning elbow that cracked Anders hard and sent him stumbling. Duncan followed up the elbow with big combinations that put Anders down on the mat for good and secured the KO victory.
Miles Johns vs Jean Matsumoto: Bantamweight
Jean Matsumoto defeats Miles Johns by split decision in a razor-thin fight. The entire fight was a flurry of activity, with lots of action going on and never seeming to stop. Johns started well in round one, landing good counter shots and establishing a good jab and left hook early. He took down Matsumoto as well, and while he was almost submitted by a guillotine, he escaped and continued to outland Matsumoto. Round two began the momentum shift to Matsumoto’s favor, as he began to mix up his strikes beautifully with crushing leg and body kicks. These strikes began to take a toll on Johns, who became more and more fatigued as Matsumoto’s assault continued. While the fight seemed to be in Matsumoto’s control, both men were even on significant strikes. The fight would come down to the third round, where Matsumoto would start to take over. The leg kicks would continue to be a problem for John, whose movement was becoming a problem. Matsumoto outlanded Johns in the third and edged his way to a split decision win. Matsumoto call out Rob Font for his next potential fight and is looking to break into the top 15 rankings.
Andre Fili vs Christian Rodriguez: Featherweight
Andre Fili defeats Christian Rodriguez by split decision in a great striking battle between the two men. Rodriguez started off the fight agressive to counter the superior reach of Fili and was landing well early. As the first round progressed Fili began to find his reach and use his length to his advantage with his jab and kicks. Round two was a very even and Rodriguez started to gain some momentum and overcome the reach disadvantage he faced. Rodriguez made it a point to draw Fili into a brawl and did just that but Fili’s counter striking and reach proved to be too much. Fili took full control in round three by securing three beautiful takedowns and continuing to land strikes on Rodriguez which was the nail in the coffin. Fili wants ranked contenders next and could face one in the near future.
#8 Iasmin Lucindo vs #12 Angela Hill: Women’s Strawweight
Iasmin Lucindo gets the unanimous decision victory against Angela Hill in dominant fashion. The young and hungry Lucindo showed great boxing and grappling all throughout the fight and put on a clinic. Nothing Hill seemed to do deter Lucindo who continued to be very busy with her hands as the fight progressed. Lucindo was constantly throwing strikes and combinations that smooth and effective. She took a break from the striking department in round three and took Hill down and controlled her there most of the round while landing good ground and pound in side control. Lucindo gets back in the win column and is looking for a championship opportunity within her next couple of fights.
#10 Steve Erceg vs Ode Osbourne: Bantamweight
Steve Erceg defeats Ode Osbourne by unanimous decision in a close fight that could have gone either way. Osbourne’s superior speed was evident from the jump and he took full advantage of this in the first round. Osbourne out struck Erceg and landed a huge right hand that almost put Erceg’s lights out. Erceg shot in for a takedown to desperately escape being finshed and survived the round. Round two was the most difficult to judge because there is an argument for both fighters as to who won the round. Erceg landed more strikes in terms of numbers but Osbourne wasn’t far behind and he seemingly landed the heavier punches. Erceg however would make it a no-doubter with his performance in round three. He out struck Osbourne and then took him down and controlled him for almost three minutes while also attempting multiple submissions. Erceg is back in the win column and is looking to move back up the ladder to gain another championship opportunity.
#9 Roman Dolidze vs #10 Anthony Hernandez: Middleweight
Anthony Hernandez wins by submission in round four against Roman Dolidze in one of the most dominant performances of the year. There was not a moment in the fight where Hernandez was not commanding every aspect. He showed some of the highest level of MMA that anyone could ever see and he made it look easy. Throughout the four rounds, Hernandez stuck to a very simple formula. Leg kicks, boxing exchange, takedown, ground and pound, and then let Dolidze up. It was almost as if Dolidze knew exactly what Hernandez was gonna do but there was nothing he could do. Hernandez made Dolidze look like an amateur when in reality he is a force in the middleweight division. Hernandez landed countless takedowns like it was nothing and dragged olidze into deep water before finally locking in the submission in round four for the win. An absolute flawless performance from Hernandez that will surely put him in conversations for who will fight for the title next.
