If you are out and about especially around high school practice fields tomorrow is the first step of beginning the new school year. Football practice officially begins on Wednesday. The practice fields will be abuzz with activity tomorrow as the teams get underway.
Teams will be in shorts and helmets for the 1st 3 days of practice and then they can practice in full gear. Players must participate in 12 practices before they can play in a game. Schools can play up to 10 regular season games and a jamboree. The State Championships will again be at Husky Stadium on Friay December 5 with the 1B, 1A and 3A classifications playing and on Saturday, December 6 for the 2B, 2A and 4A title games.
The other Fall only sports will begin on Monday, August 25.
Volleyball: Players need 7 practices completed before playing in a match. Volleyball can play 18 regular season matches and a jamboree. The State Championships will be in the Yakima SunDome. The 4A, 3A tournaments will be on November 21-22, the 2A, 1A on November 14-15 and the 2B, 1B will begin it pn November 12-13.
Soccer: Girls soccer plays in the Fall along with the combined 1b, 2b boys. The other 4 classifications of boys soccer play in the Spring. Those playing in the fall will begin next Monday and will need 7 practices before being eligible to play in a match. Teams can play up to 16 regular season matches and a jamboree. The State final 4 will November 21-22 at 3 locations. The 4A, 3A is in Puyallup at Sparks stadium, the 2A and 1A will be at Mt Tahoma and the B Girls and B Boys at Federal Way High School.
Cross Country: All classification begin next Monday and participants need a minimum of 7 practices to be eligible to run in a meet. Teams are limnited to 10 regular season meets and a jamboree. The State Cross Country meet will be on November 8 back at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.
Girls Swimming and Diving: The girls swimming practices begin on Monday, August 25 and each swimmer needs 7 to be eligible to particpate in a meet. Teams can schedule up to 12 meets and a jamboree. The State swim meet will be held at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way and take place on November 14 and 15.
Slowpitch: The Slowpitch season also begins on August 25 and teams can play up to 20 regular season games and a jamboree. Players need 7 practices before eligible to play in a game. The State Slowpitch tournament is in Yakima at the Gateway Sports complex on October 24 and 25.
Other Sports that participate at different times of the season but have Fall dates as an alternative schedule. The Championships are in the Spring.
Boys and Girls Tennis: Practices can start on Monday the 25th and players need 7 practices prior to playing in the 1st match. Players can play in up to 18 matches during the regular season and a jamboree. The State Tennis tournaments are held in the Spring at multiple locations on May 22 and 23.
Boys and Girls Golf: The golf teams can play up to 12 matches and a jamboree. Teams can actually begin playing matches anytime they choose as there are no practices required prior to playing in a match. The State Golf tournaments are at multiple locations and will be played in May on the 19th and 20th.
Girls Flag Football: The brand new sport of Girls Flag Football will begin this season. Due to the newness and trying to allow schools and leagues a chance to best fill their teams and compete there is a main season with two alternate season to particpate. The Championship will be played on May 16 with a location still to be determined.
The main season begins in February and goes right into the play-offs. The first alternate season schedule starts on November 17 and ends December 29. The first alternate season starts on Monday and goes to November 15. Teams who qualify for the play-offs will have to wait until May to compete for the Championship.
In all three potential seasons each team can play up to 12 regualar season games and a jamboree. Players must get 7 practices in before being able to play. Check with your local leagues and schools to see if they have a girls flag football team and when they are scheduled to play.
