8/30/2025
(Auburn, WA) Saturday’s 7 race card was dominated by favorites and front speed. Clubhouse Drama left little drama in rolling to a 4 length win in the feature race. The 20-cent pick 6 was hit multiple times to push the carryover to Sunday with nearly a 30k carryover.
The Numbers
The 7 races attracted 47 starters for a 6.7 average per race. The shorter fields still attracted a solid day of betting with $1,126,256 in handle or $160,894 average per race.
From the Saddle
Adrain Castellanos was the only one to double up on Saturday by sweeping the late daily double winning the feature on Clubhouse Drama and taking the finale aboard Beer Begone.
A push in the race for Jockey Title
Leading rider Kevin Krigger held sway with a 6 win lead over Manny Americano as both got a win on Saturday. With 4 days to go time is quickly running out and Americano needs to quickly close that 6 win gap to have a shot over the final couple of days.
Cruz goes down again
Alex Cruz was involved in a spill on Longacres Mile day in the race before the 6 stakes races and was taken to the hospital where he was checked and treated for a knee injury. Cruz was again involved in a spill on Saturday when his horse trailing the field on the rail tried to avoid a horse that went down in front of him. Pablo Castillo was thrown from the first horse.
For the second time in 2 weeks Cruz at no fault of his own was tossed and hit the ground hard. Both Castillo and Cruz were evaluated and at the time of this writing we know Cruz was sore and hadn’t decided if he will ride on Sunday and we heard Castillo was checked out at the hospital and released.
The 1st horse was taken off the track in the horse ambulance and the 2nd horse walked off.
The Betting Window
The big news for bettors is the 20-cent pick 6 carried over again and now sits at $29,995 for Sunday’s 8 race card.
Back-to-back 1-2-3-4
In the 1st and 2nd races boxing the 1-2-3 in the trifecta and 1-2-3-4 in the superfecta would have won you all 4 bets. In the 1st race the pay-off wasn’t much. The $3 trifecta box paid $6.17 and the $2.40 superfecta box returned $2.01 which ended up being a loss.
But in the 2nd race, the trifecta paid $17.98 and the superfecta $15.72.
