(Chehalis, WA) WF West came into the match with a 1-1 league record and their first loss of the season to Tumwater. Aberdeen had a 4-3-1 overall record but came into the match 0-2 in EVCO 2A play. In a tight league every match is important and neither team wants to fall behind in the standings early in the season.
Bearcats Control Possession in First Half
From the first whistle the WF West Bearcats came out firing on all cylinders on offense. With Lauren Kelley and Taylor Tobin running down the wings and sending in passes to the midfield trio of Ashlen Gruginski, Reese Mishler and Wyatt Rogerson.
In the 19th minute Tobin ran down a ball along the end line and sent a floating cross into the 6 yard box that Kelley tipped in for the 1-0 lead.
The Bobcats junior keeper Anni Devine played outstanding with 6 saves in the first half. Aberdeen’s defense held tight but had a hard time clearing the ball down the field. As the half wore down Shay Dunlap led a late push by the Bobcats but the Bearcats defense held strong. The half ended with WF West leading 1-0.

The Bearcats’ Wyatt Rogerson picked off the opening kick and got loose down the sideline. After a pass to Lauren Kelley and a Reese Mishler finish gave the Bearcats a 2-0 lead less than a minute into the 2nd half.
The Bobcats battled hard but couldn’t find an opening in the tough Bearcat defense. Devine notched 6 more saves giving her a dozen for the match.
WF West took 7 corners in the match to go along with their 12 shots on goal. Aberdeen got 4 shots on goal for the match.

MVP and Up Next
The Thorbeckes’ MVP went to Lauren Kelley for her goal and assist in the match. With a nod to Reese Mishler and Taylor Tobin who both play well for the Bearcats. Anni Devine and Shay Dunlap stood out for Aberdeen as did promising freshman defender Klemintine Servellon.
WF West is now 2-1 in league and 6-1-1 overall they travel to Centralia on October 7th. Aberdeen drops to 0-3 in the EVCO 2A and 4-4-1 overall. The Bobcats host Shelton also on October 7th.
