Black Hills 48, Centralia 0
(Centralia, WA) There was a big crowd on hand for the Centralia Tigers home game against Black Hills for Homecoming and a new found optimism for maybe a chance to get a win. The Tigers came in with a 1-3 record which included a 35-0 win over RA Long but a close loss to Elma and being in the game with a good Tenino team trailing 20-15 at halftime before the Beaver’s pulled away.
Black Hills is also another team trying to turn the corner after a couple of down years and also came in with a 1-3 records with a 14-7 win over Clover Park, a tight loss tol always tough Eatonville and then getting blown out by Montesano and Rochester.
One of these teams was about to start the EVCO 2A 1-o and get a little momentum rolling. The thought of a tight back and forth affair was over over on the first play from scrimmage when the Wolves dropped back to pass with Jesse Keith from their own 45 yard line and hit Jacob Squier on a slant pattern who then sprinted past the deep backs taking it to the house 55 yards later for a quick strike touchdown, Jaminb Bender added the PAT for a 7-0 lead just 16 seconds into the game.
Although Wolves had a hard time holding onto the football in the 1st quarter and would ultimately lose 3 fumbles to the Tiger defense, none of those miscues cost Black Hills.
The Wolves would fumble away their next 2 possessions but give up nothing on defense. On the 4th possession, the Wolves took 3 plays to score on a 13 yard run by Jess Bender to go up 14-0. After their next possession where they fumbled again they would take over on their own 44. QB Jesse Keith dropped back and connected with tight end Tyson Creekpaum on a 35 yard catch and run score for a 21-o lead with 9:48 to play in the half.
Through the first 5 possessions for the Tigers they had run a total of 15 plays that were not punts or interceptions. That was the dominance of the Wolves defense.
Black Hills wasn’t finished in the 1st half, far from it. On their next possession they went 53 yards in 3 plays with Keith finishing the drive from 2 yards out, the PAT was wide but a big 27-0 lead.
After another Tiger punt, the Wolves took over on their ownb 35. It was Keith again using his legs but this time for 57 yards including a great cut back inside the 10 yard line to get in for the score and a 34-0 lead.
The Wolves still weren’t done when Jaxson Simmons picked off a Centralia pass on the Tiger 34. Two plays later, Simmons strolled into the endzone for the Wolves 6th touchdown of the 1st half and would head to the locker room with a 41-0 lead.
After a fun-filled homecoming halftime the 2nd half began with a runnig clock in play and Jacob Tinsley would cap the scoring with a 35 yard run for the final 48-0 score.
The Wolves finished with 416 total yards of offense with 322 on the ground and 94 through the air with 2 touchdowns. The Wolves defense gave up a total of 47 yards for the game and no points.
The Wolves defense as a unit was named our Thorbeckes MVP of the game. The Wolves improve to 1-0 in league play and 2-3 for the season. Next Friday they have their big collision with their crosstown rival Tumwater in the Pioneer bowl.
Centralia drops to 0-1 and 1-4 and will travel to Aberdeen next Friday.
