10/7/25

Upsets stole the show in week 5 of the NFL season with a number of heavy favorites falling to mid-tier teams. We also had four teams on a bye week, so two fewer games played a role in what was a lower total yardage of field goals as the tiebreaker was needed once again this week. It was not a strong showing for a vast majority of the contestants for Professor DW’s Football Pick ’em Challenge. The average score was 5 correct picks out of 14 games which is one of the worst weeks in the history of the contest.

Jacksonville capped off the week with a win over the Kansas City Chiefs in another upset which gave Wes Swick the outright win. Wes finished with 9 which gave him the one-point win over…Professor DW! DW picked Kansas City and was oh so close to ending his long drought but alas could not quite finish the job. The Professor did take second with 8 correct selections so the third-place finisher would qualify for the Postseason tournament. Seven contestants finished with seven points but three guessed way over the correct field goal yardage of 1,588. Roy Clark was close with a guess of 1,640 but was eliminated due to being over. Both Lori Mohney and Jake Moe went low to play it safe but it was Chris Barnes guess of 1,120 which nets him a spot in the Postseason Tournament.

Once again, two new contestants advance to the Postseason Tournament but it is Wes Swick who earns the $27 cash prize with a narrow victory over the Professor. Wes and Chris advance for their opportunity to win the Ticket Bonanza! That includes two tickets to the Mariners, Seahawks, Kraken, Sounders, Storm, Tacoma Rainiers, and Emerald Downs. We are still looking for our first entrant to block out a spot but for now, ten people have locked in their spots with 26 spots still available. Everyone can continue to enter even if you have already won to try to keep that field as small as possible to increase their chances of winning.

Professor DW put together a very nice performance and was a couple of plays away from earning the win and ending a 39-week losing streak. Professor DW was the only contestant to predict New England to stun Buffalo but the Giants letdown in New Orleans. He was also one of few to predict Tennessee to get their first win over Arizona. San Francisco and New Orleans prevented DW from getting the win so once again will he ever win again?

Week 6’s contest is up. The deadline to get your entry in is 4pm on Thursday so get signed up now. Congratulations Wes and Chris and best of luck to everyone this week.
