(Tumwater, WA) The Tumwater T-Birds haven’t lost a league match since 2017 and have a 3-0 record in the league already. The Black Hills Wolves are 8-1 so far, with their one loss coming to WF West. Sid Otton Field at Tumwater District Stadium hosted the first leg of the Pioneer Bowl.

Tumwater Controls First Half

The T-Birds came out as the aggressor from the opening whistle. Tumwater kept feeding the ball down the wing to the speedy Cassidy Hedin, who launched passes and shots all over the 18-yard box.

It was Kayla Pope who got the goal-scoring started for Tumwater. In the 26th minute, she settled a pass and turned, and fired from distance, just getting the ball over the Black Hills keeper’s hand.

Black Hills got great play from their senior keeper Angela Gibbs, who notched 8 saves in the first half. The Wolves had a hard time getting the ball away from the pressing T-Birds early in the half. As the game went on, Hailey Moxham and Ella Jarmin settled the Wolves and got them in a rhythm offensively.

It looked like the Pope’s goal was going to be the only one of the first half. Chloe Foos had a different plan, taking the ball from her defensive spot upfield and finding Cassidy Hedin for the tap-in goal and the 2-0 halftime lead.

Halftime Tumwater 2 Black Hills 0

The Black Hills Wolves started the second half with more tempo and confidence. Getting the ball away quicker and keeping pace with Tumwater. Angela Gibbs stayed busy and had a great save in the 53rd minute.

Just a minute later in the 54th Sophie Boatright put Tumwater up 3-0 taking the wind out of the Wolves sails.

After a take down in the penalty area in the 73rd Minute Black Hills’ Ella Jarmin converted the penalty kick to get the Wolves on the board.

Tumwater scored again in the 77th when Hedin assisted Kennedy Riedl. Hedin added her second goal of the match in the 78th minute and the 5-1 final score.

MVP and UP Next

Our Thorbeckes’ MVP went to Cassidy Hedin when you score 2 goals and get an assist it makes it pretty easy to name an MVP. The T-Birds got great contributions from Sophie Boatright, Kennedy Riedl, Kayla Pope and Chloe Foos on the offensive end of the field.

Black Hills Angela Gibbs was outstanding in goal and the Wolves got good play from Ella Jarmin and Hailey Moxham in the midfield. Sienna Perry, Natalie Jarmin and Ella McNair are a freshman trio to watch out for in the future.

Tumwater is now 4-0 in league and 5-3-1 overall with a match at Centralia on October 9th. Black Hills is now 8-2 on the season and 2-2 in EVCO 2A play. The Wolves host Aberdeen on October 9th.
