Mt Tahoma 35, Bellarmine Prep 13

The Bellarmine Prep Lions went on the road to take on the Mt. Tahoma T-Birds in a PSL battle of two undefeated teams. Mt. Tahoma has been dominant all year, running through its competition handily, leading up to this game. The T-Birds are looking like one of the teams to beat in the 3A classification, and for good reason. Bellarmine Prep also came into this game undefeated and tied for first place in the PLS Narrows league with Mt Tahoma. This was a huge game for both teams, with interesting playoff implications at stake. These two teams faced off for what was an exciting night of high school football.

First Half

The first quarter was a defensive battle between the teams. Mt Tahoma received the ball to start the game and got off to a great start with a 55-yard return on the kickoff. From there, the T-Birds had a couple of good runs, but Bellarmine’s defense also put together a couple of tackles for loss, as well as some offensive penalties, which ended the drive for Mt. Tahoma. Bellarmine would start their first drive of the game well and marched their way down the field using short intermediate passes. The Lions would find themselves near midfield before DB Elijah Durr would get an interception on the pass from QB Birk Johnston. Mt Tahoma gets the ball back, but gets stopped quickly by the Lions. At the end of the first quarter, Mt Tahoma would get another interception on Johnston and take back possession. The game was tied 0-0 after the first quarter.

On the first play of the second quarter, Mt Tahoma RB Nezie White burst through the defense for a 67-yard touchdown for the first score of the game. This seemed to light a fire under Mt Tahoma as their offense began to start clicking. After stopping Bellarmine, they would get the ball back and put together a long drive down the field. This was capped off with a 4-yard touchdown run by Keshawn Hines to put the T-Birds up two scores. Bellarmine would not go away, however. After the Mt Tahoma touchdown, the Lions started to push the ball downfield and capped off their drive with a Touchdown pass from Birk Johsnton to Ezra Mungai. This was a big momentum swing for Bellarmine as they would get an interception on Mt Tahoma the very next drive. With just under two minutes remaining in the half, Bellarmine drove down the field to get in field goal range. They would unleash a 45 yard field goal to end the half and bring themselves within one score. Mt Tahoma led 14-10 at halftime.

Second Half

Bellarmine would get the ball to start the half but was forced to go three and out by Mt Tahoma’s defense. Both teams would swap possession with good defensive play but the next srtike would be at the hands of Mt Tahoma. Midway through the third quater, Mikkah Cordero found his way into the endzone on a 7-yard TD run. The T-Birds offense was in full effect after this and caught a big rhythm. Bellarmine would find themselves in the redzone on their next drive on two big plays from WR Luke Shaw that totaled 41 yards. The Lions would have to settle for a 35-yard field goal from Callum Lyons. Mt Tahoma led 21-13 going into the 4th quarter.

Mt Tahoma’s offense was hot to start the fourth quarter. KeShawn Hines broke free for a 40-yard run to put the T-Birds in scoring position. Penalties backed them up to the 27-yard line but that did not faze the Mt Tahoma offense. Mikkah Cordero would roll out right and fire a shot into the endzone to Elijah Durr for the 27-yard touchdown. Bellarmine would be forced to go three and out and punt the ball away. KeShawn Hines would get another huge run, being pushed forward an extra 10 yards by his offesnive line for a 24-yard gain. Mikkah Cordero would find Elijah Durr again for a 13 yard touchdown with minutes remaining in the game. Mt Tahoma would win 35-13 vs Bellarmine.
