Lakes 28, Timberline 12
(Lacey, WA) Lakes came on the road to take on Timberline in what was a consequential game in the PSL-Nisqually league. Lakes came into the game undefeated at 6-0 and have been dominant all season. Blowout win after blowout win has been the common theme for the Lancers all season long. Timberline has had a great bounce-back season this year and was 4-2 coming into this year. Timberline was tied for second place in the PSL Nisqually with Capital, and Lakes reigned at the top of the league. A huge matchup for both teams in what was a competitive and entertaining matchup all night.
First Half
Lakes received the ball on the opening kickoff and already got into amazing field position after a 61-yard kickoff return to put the Lancers at the 24-yard line. Lakes would find themselves inside the 6-yard line after a few penalties and would end the opening drive with a 6-yard touchdown run for QB Jadis Lefono. Lake’s defense would then start strong, forcing Timberline to go three and out and getting the ball back. Again, Lakes would start past midfield to start their second drive. The Lancers went right back to work as they would start from the back at their 28-yard line, but got the run game going quickly. Korben Reed would end the drive on a 44-yard touchdown run to put Lakes up 21-0. Disaster would immediately strike for Timberline as they would fumble the kickoff return and give Lakes the ball right back. Penalties unraveled Lakes on their next possession and Timberline took advantage by forcing a turnover on downs. After forcing a turnover on downs, Korben Reed would explode for a 53-yard touchdown run and his second of the game. Timberline then would throw an interception to Corey Irish for his second pick of the game. Lakes would give the ball right back with a interception of their own to King Spearman. This ignited a fire under the blazers. They marched down the field and capped of the drive with a 7-yard touchdown run from Cooper Jones. Timberline’s defense came up big again with another interception from David Tyrell. Lakes held the lead at 28-6 going into the fourth quarter.
Again, the Blazers put together another great drive. A 33 yard run from Tj Penn led to a 14-yard run from Penn for the touchdown. Blazer’s defense held Lakes to a three-and-out again to get the ball back but penalties would be their undoing. Pushing them back over and over again as time was ticking off the clock. Timberline wasn’t able to get the first down on 4th and long and Lakes got the ball back with under two minutes left to go. Lakes would run the clock out and bring home the win 28-12.
