10/21/25
Week 7 of the NFL season has come and gone in 2025 and it would be a season’s first in Professor DW’s Football Pick ’em Challenge. 15 games were on the schedule with Buffalo and Baltimore on byes but it would be an interesting week in terms of field goals to decide yet another tiebreaker. It was a strong week across the board the average correct picks in double digits with a lot of favorites getting wins. One contestant ran away with this week’s contest while a group of our entrants found themselves in a tie for 2nd.
We would have yet another doubleheader on Monday night but nobody was going to catch Trent Twamley who dominated this week. Trent nailed both Monday night games, giving him 14 points as he only missed Thursday night’s upset of Cincinnati defeating Pittsburgh. While Trent did dominate to earn the win, second place was up for grabs and after Detroit knocked off Tampa Bay and Seattle defended homefield against Houston, eight contestants were tied for second place and an spot in the postseason tournament.
There were many chances for additional field goals this week but teams like the Jaguars and Texans continued to roll the dice and go for it on 4th down instead of kicking. That saw the total yardage drop over 400 yards down to a total of 1,764. That would cut off six contestants, including Roy Clark who was just four yards over with a guess of 1,768. Stephen Gruginski would end up being the winner with a guess of 1,747 which was still a great guess at just 17 yards under.
For the first time this season, we have a top two finisher that already qualified for the Postseason Tournament. Trent Twamley finished second back in week 1 so he takes up a spot but only gets one entry in the Postseason Tournament. That brings the maximum number of entrants to 35 as Stephen did lock up his spot this week for his chance at the Ticket Bonanza! That includes two tickets to the Mariners, Seahawks, Kraken, Sounders, Storm, Tacoma Rainiers, and Emerald Downs. 13 contestants have qualified with 22 spots up for grabs after Trent successfully blocked out one of the spots while winning $27 for beating the Professor. Everyone can continue to enter even if you have already won to try to keep that field as small as possible to increase their chances of winning.
Speaking of the Professor, he had a very respectable showing this week with 11 correct predictions. DW did miss on his pick of Houston upsetting Seattle but did pick the two toilet bowl games correctly with Carolina beating the Jets and Cleveland blowing out Miami. The losing streak continues for DW who has now lost 42 consecutive weeks since winning the first week of the contest back in 2023.
In this week’s least picked upset, 17% of our entrants had Cincinnati defeating Pittsburgh in the latest of a string of Thursday night upsets. That run of upsets will come to an end as Minnesota takes on the Los Angeles Chargers in a toss-up game this week. Other games where the majority missed were Dallas defeating Washington and surprisingly enough Indianapolis over the LA Chargers.
Week 8’s contest is up. The deadline to get your entry in is 4pm on Thursday so get signed up now. Congratulations Trent and Stephen and best of luck to everyone this week.
