Jockey Flavien Prat is running out of things to accomplish. Of course taking center stage this past weekend was the Breeders Cup at Del Mar. Prat had multiple rides and won two of the BC races. Prat won on Nysos in the dirt mile as the 1-2 favorite and the filly and mare sprint on Splendora at 5-2.
Winning 2 million dollar purses over 2 days is normally the accomplishment everyone is talking about. This is the beauty of this sport we love, there is no end of the season. As one track winds down another is starting or many others are in the middle of their season.
Prat jumped on a plane and flew back to New York to take 9 rides on Sunday at Aqueduct. Prat was in 9 of 11 races but oddly didn’t get a mount in the stakes race.

Prat rode the 1st through the 7th, skipped the 8th and 9th and finished with rides in the 10th and 11th.
Prat began the day with a 2nd place finish in the fcirst beaten by 1 1/4 lengths. Then things started to fire on all cylinders. Despite riding all favorites, what Prat was about to do is something not too many race fans have ever witnessed.
Prat would win the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th races for 6 in a row. He was off the 8th and 9th and then won the 10th race for 7 straight wins from 7 mounts. Prat was on a lukewarm 7-2 morningline favorite in the 11th and came roaring down the stretch but lost by a nose denying him 8 straight wins.
He finished the day with a 2nd, 7 wins and a 2nd.
So where does that stand in history? It made New York racing history but fell short of joining 5 other North American riders who have won 8 in a single day.
That list includes Chris Loseth who rode regularly at Exhibition Park (Hastings) and made many starts at Longacres and Emerald Downs.

Loseth won 8 races from 10 mounts at Exhibition Park in Vancouver, B.C. on April 9, 1984. Loseth also had a 5 win day at Golden Gate and 3 six win days 2 in Canada and once at Longacres.
- Pat Day: Won 8 races from 9 mounts at Arlington International Racecourse on September 13, 1989. This is considered the best percentage day (8 of 9) for a jockey on a single track card in North America.
- David Gall: Won 8 races from 10 mounts at Cahokia Downs on October 18, 1978.
- R.D. Williams: Won 8 races from 10 mounts at Lincoln, Nebraska on September 29, 1984.
- Ken Shino: Won 8 races on a single card at Fonner Park on April 2, 2000.
- Joao Moreira: Has ridden 8 winners in a single day on multiple occasions, including at Kranji race track in Singapore in 2013 and at Sha Tin in Hong Kong in March 2017, where he set a new Hong Kong record for most wins in one day.
- Oscar Baratucci: Holds the world record for a perfect day, winning 8 out of 8 races at Independencia track in Rosario City, Argentina, on December 15, 1957.
