11/4/25

After a heavy bye week in week 8, we were back down to just four teams on a bye in week 9. The first November Sunday of Professor DW’s Football Pick ’em Challenge was a good one as multiple upsets rattled the league and gave those that enjoy picking big upsets a chance to get on the board. Two contestants pulled away from the rest of the pack and spoiled any hopes of a little drama on Monday night as they already had locked up the top two spots before Arizona and Dallas kicked off.

Lori Mohney and Kelsey Hergert ran away from the pack as they both had 11 points after Seattle thrashed Washington on Sunday night football. There were some contestants with 10 but none of them picked opposite of Lori and Kelsey as the Dallas Cowboys were the popular pick on Monday night although they laid an egg against the Cardinals. Still, Lori and Kelsey were locked into the top two so we once again headed to the field goal tiebreaker in total yardage of made kicks in week 9.

Both Lori and Kelsey went the same route for their tiebreaker guesses. Neither wanted to go over so both played it very safe with extremely low guesses as Lori guessed 180 but Kelsey went higher at 652. The total field goal yardage of the week was 1,625, highlighted by Jacksonville’s Cam Little setting a new NFL-record of 68 yards in the Jags win over the Raiders. Kelsey’s higher guess ended up being the difference maker as she gets the narrow win over Lori thanks to her upset picks of Minnesota over Detroit and Pittsburgh over Denver.

Both Kelsey and Lori are new to the top two so for the first time since week 6, we have two new entrants into the Postseason Tournament. Kelsey also smoked the Professor so she nets $27 along with her spot in the tournament. That brings the total number of entrants to 16 with just 18 spots left in the final nine weeks. The winner of the Postseason Tournament will have their chance to take home the Ticket Bonanza! That includes two tickets to the Mariners, Seahawks, Kraken, Sounders, Storm, Tacoma Rainiers, and Emerald Downs. Everyone can continue to enter even if you have already won to try to keep that field as small as possible to increase their chances of winning.

Professor DW was flat out abysmal this week with a horrific performance. Out of 14 games, DW only got five correct in the second worst performance in Professor DW history. The only games he got correct were easy picks as well like Baltimore over Miami, the Chargers over Titans, and Rams over Saints. He might as well just flip a coin cause that might be better than whatever he did this week. That is 44 consecutive losses with no end in sight.

There were a couple of huge upsets this week that weren’t picked by very many at all. The two biggest upsets were Carolina stunning Green Bay and Minnesota taking down Detroit in a crazy week for the NFC North. Only 2% of entrants picked those games right and even the biggest risk takers swung and miss but the Vikings win is what pushed Kelsey to the top of the leaderboard.

Week 10’s contest is up. The deadline to get your entry in is 4pm on Thursday so get signed up now. Congratulations Kelsey and Lori and best of luck to everyone this week.
