Rochester 74, Lakeside (9 Mile) 41
(Centralia, WA) The Lakeside Eagles made the long trip to play Rochester at Centralia’s Tiger Stadium in the round of 24 on Sarturday afternoon.
This match-up was certainly one of if not the most entertaining of the entire weekend. The two teams combined 115 points and more than 1,o00 yards of offense.
Those yards came from the exact opposite of each other as Rochester racked up more than 500 yards on the ground and the Eagles well over 300 yards through the air.
The Warriors led at halftime 26-20 but Lakeside would receive the 2nd half kick-off and have a chance at taking the lead on the opening drive of the 2nd half.
One of the first big plays was an onside kick by Rochester which was a line-drive about 3 feet off the air and bounced off one of the front men and Rochester recovered on the 50 yard line. 5 plays and Ethan Rodriguez ran it in from the 2 and added the 2 point conversion for a 34-20 lead.
The two teams then exchanged touchdowns and the Warriors led 42-27. On the next series a huge sack led to the Eagles turning the ball over on downs. Rochester took advantage with a 27 yard TD from Maddox Rodgers tro push their lead to 50-27.
Those two plays blew this game open and Lakeside, never giving up simply could not catch the Warriors.
Rochester would have 12 drives with 2 of them at the end of the half and game that weren’t real drives. So, with 10 full drives in the game the Warriors scored 10 touchdowns and 627 total yards.
Lakeside finished with 6 touchdowns and 427 yards in total offense and it wasn’t enough to win the game and it wasn’t enough to stop the running clock from getting started. Rochester took a 74-33 lead with 3:57 to play in the game kicking in the running clock as the Eagles trailed by 41 points.
Leading the offense for Rochester was Ethan Rodriguez with 26 carries for 219 yards and 3 TD’s. Xander Peterman ran 17 times for 186 yards and 3 scores while Maddox Rodgers had 19 carries for 141 and 2 TD’s.
QB Easton Singleton was 2-2 for 44 yards. We also need to make an apology to Easton as we ended up with an incorrect last name referring to him as Easton Eagleton. Easton we whole heartedly apologize and with the name sounding similar we didn’t pick up the correct pronunciation from the P-A announcer while we were on the air.
For Lakeside, QB Tanner Cummings was 20 of 35 for 297 yards, 4 TD’s and an interception. Kannon Almond came in to relieve Cummings in their opening drive when Cummings had to come off with a cut to his arm. It was 3rd and 13 and the Eagles needed to throw the ball and didn’t hesitate with Almond.
Almond calmly dropped back stepped up into the pocket and drilled a shot to Noah Merrill who scored from 31 yards.
Our Thorbeckes MVP of the game went to Ethan Rodriguez for his massive game of 200+ yards.
