(Honolulu, HI) The Saint Martin’s Saints took a trip to Hawai’i for the GNAC-PacWest Conference Challenge to play a pair of games.
The Saints first took on Chaminade and jumped out to a 25-6 lead after the first quarter, and didn’t look back. Despite being outscored 16-8 in the second quarter, Saint Martin’s had a big third quarter, outscoring Chaminade 22-10 and eventually winning 67-44. Kiana Rios led the Saints with 19 points, eight rebounds, and missed only two shots all game. Rios went 5-7 from the floor and a perfect 9-9 from the free-throw line. Jada Travis hit four three-pointers for 13 points, and Avery Oaster added 12 points. The Saints never trailed in the game and turned the ball over just seven times while forcing 22 Chaminade turnovers.
In their second game, the Saints faced Hawai’i Pacific and held a slight first-quarter lead at 14-12. The Saints led 25-23 at the half and pulled away slightly after the third quarter, leading 41-33. Saint Martin’s kept building their lead in the fourth quarter and would win 58-44. Kiana Rios led the Saints again with 16 points and 4 steals. Jada Travis had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Rios and Travis were 18-23 from the free-throw line combined. Avery Oaster had 11 points and eight rebounds in the winning effort. The Saints forced Hawai’i Pacific into 21 turnovers.
Saint Martin’s improves to 3-2 on the season and hosts Point Loma Nazarene on Saturday, November 22, at 4:00 PM.
