State Championship
#1 Orcas Island 1, #3 St George’s School 0
Orcas Island wasted no time flexing their muscle in this one and it had almost the exact same start as their semifinal win over Evergreen Lutheran. The Vikings used high level passing to possess the ball and feel out the Saint George’s defense. In the 4th minute, it would be Junior Conejo Medina with another early goal to put the Vikings up 1-0.
It was a very frustrating match for the Saint George’s offense as Orcas Island seemed to know what the Dragons were looking to do. They shutdown the attack led by Gavin Eliason thanks to a defense led by Angelo Vaccarella. At halftime it was the Vikings leading 1-0
It was more possession focused soccer in the second half for Orcas Island as the Vikings knew they could not give St. George’s any openings after the Dragons dramatic late goal in the semifinals. Timo Malo was a force in goal for Orcas Island, not due to too many shots on goal but he was all over anything inside the 18.
It was impressive how well the St. George’s defense played after allowing the early goal. Pierce English was strong in goal for the Dragons with a few tricky saves to keep the Dragons right within striking distance. However, the Orcas Island defense was too good for the Dragons to breakthrough. The final whistle sounded and Orcas Island had successfully defended their B boys soccer state championship with a 1-0 win over St. George’s.
Orcas Island would take home their third boys soccer state championship with all three title victories coming in the 2020s. It is their seventh trophy in the last nine seasons as they finish the season with a record of 19-1-2.
The Sumner Holiday Inn Express MVP went to Angelo Vaccarella and Lauro Quintero-Carrion as the seniors led the strong defense for Orcas Island.
Saint George’s takes home the second-place trophy and it is their 15th trophy in program history. The Dragons take home second for the fourth time to go along with their three state titles with the latest coming in 2019. The Dragons finish the season with a record of 17-3-1.

In the third-place match, Mount Vernon Christian and Evergreen Lutheran would meet for the third time this season with a tie in the first meeting and a 2-1 win for Mount Vernon Christian in the rematch in districts.

Evergreen Lutheran would take home their first trophy since 2018 when they took third in the school’s only final four appearance since dropping to the 1B/2B ranks.
Scoring started late in the first half when Sean Russell scored again on the weekend to put the Hurricanes up 1-0 in the 33rd minute. Just one minute later, Evergreen Lutheran answered with a goal from Max Follmar to tie the match at 1-1 going into halftime.
Chaos took over in the second half as the scoring continued to pick up. Sean Russell was named the Sumner Holiday Inn Express MVP of the match with his two goals which gave him three on the weekend.
Had Evergreen Lutheran got the win, Wyatt Webster and Gabe Habeck would have been the two in the spotlight with Webster in goal and Habeck’s offense.
Mount Vernon Christian finishes the season with a record of 17-2-3 and the third-place trophy is the best finish since 2004.
Evergreen Lutheran finishes the campaign with a 10-3-4 record and take home the fourth-place trophy for their second trophy since becoming a 1B/2B school.
