Toledo Riverhawks 42, Napavine Tigers 0

There is a reason why Toledo is the number one seed in the 2B classification. They had a flawless season, and this game was no exception. Toledo came into the game 10-0, having won its previous game 45-14 against Columbia Burbank in the first round of the state tournament. They have their eyes set on the gold, and no one has been able to stand in their way. Napavine had an up-and-down season but secured the eight seed with a 6-4 record. They came into this game off a dramatic win last week against Northwest Christian. This put the Tigers on a 6-game winning streak and the momentum that they wanted to carry into the game. Napavine came in second last year in the state championship and wanted to avenge that loss. Only one thing stood in their way: Toledo.

First Half

Toledo got the ball to start the game and marched right down the field to get into scoring position. The Napavine defense, as well as penalties, put a stop to the Riverhawks and forced a fourth down. Grady Wilson batted down a pass to force the turnover on downs and get the ball into Napavine’s hands. The Toledo defense got right to work and forced a punt within a few plays. Grady Wilson punted the perfect ball that rolled all the way down to the one-yard line. Both teams would exchange penalties back and forth. Toledo found themselves at the 10-yard line, and Rohan Feigaebaum broke free on a quick pass from Eli Weeks for a 90-yard touchdown to put the Riverhawks on the board first. Toledo would go into the second quarter leading 7-0

Toledo would immediately force a three-and-out on Napavine and force another punt. Then, a 61-yard run from Carter Swofford led to a 14 yard touchdown catch for Adam Kruger. Napavine would have their best drive of the night up until that point that was aided by defensive penalties on Toledo. They got in striking range but the defense for the Riverhawks would hold strong and force the turnover on downs. In just a few plays, a 35-yard run  from Natan Beaver and a 20-yard run from Carter Swofford got the Riverhawks into the red zone. It only took one play for Eli Weeks to find his way into the end zone for hist first rushing touchdown of the day. Grady Wilson for Napavine would thrown an interception that was ran back to the 5-yard line by Rohan Feigenbaum. Penalties would destroy the drive and Toledo would not be able to capitalize. Toledo led 22-0 going into halftime.

Second Half

The Tigers got the ball to start the second half and were immediately forced to punt. This gave Toledo good field position, and they marched down to the 1-yard line before Eli Weeks kept the ball on a QB sneak and in for the touchdown. Napavine put together a great drive that got them in the red one, but would throw a costly interception in the end zone that was returned 63 yard by Austin Reed. Toledo went into the fourth quarter leading 30-0.

Toledo would throw an interception right back, however, to Drake Barns of Napavine. The Tigers would be forced to punt again. On the next drive for Toledo, Eli Weeks unleashed a 51-yard touchdown run for his third of the day on foot and fifth overall. After another punt from the Tigers, Carter Swofford finally reached the end zone on a five-yard run as time expired on the clock. Toledo came away with a masterclass performance on all sides of the ball and defeated the Tigers 42-0. The Riverhawks will go on to play the #5 seed Okanogan next week on Saturday, November 29th.

MVP and Stats

Our Thorbecks MVP of the game award went to Eli Weeks, who had five total touchdowns on the day, three rushing and two passing. He tallied 130 yards on 12 carries and went 4/8 passing with 122 yards and an interception. Carter Swofford had an outstanding game with 22 carries for 257 yards and a touchdown. Absolute monster game on the ground for Swofford. Rohan Feigenbaum had one catch for 90 yards and a touchdown as well as an interception. Adam Kruger had 3 catches, 32 yards, and a touchdown. Austin Reed had an interception on the night as well. The entire defense for Toledo was great, but Nico Acosta stood out as he had multiple sacks and tackles for loss throughout the game. He was unstoppable and seemed to have a hand in every big defensive play. A complete game that pushes them one step closer to a potential state title.

For Napavine, Caleb Von Pressentin had 13 carries for 30 yards. Dean Hamilton had 9 carries for 31 yards. Grady Wilson had 9 carries as well for 31 yards. Drake Barns had an interception in the game as well for the Tigers. Napavine ends their dramatic season, but they should be proud of the success they have had this year. Good luck to all the seniors who played their last game of high school football for the Tigers.
