11/25/25

It felt like a very weird week in the NFL in week 12 with some comebacks, upsets, and three games going to overtime. It was bizarre right away after Houston upset Buffalo on Thursday night and that didn’t help out very many people in Professor DW’s Football Pick ’em Challenge. However, some did get it right but those people faded out after that while a handful went on great runs and the field was narrowed down to four after the Rams blowout win over the Bucs on Sunday night.

Four contestants had 11 points going into the Carolina @ San Francisco game on Monday night. Stephen Gruginski, Trent Twamley, and Jeff Johnson all had San Francisco while Carter Fab sat as the only one with 11 points that chose Carolina. The Panthers were awful on offense which gave San Francisco the win despite throwing three interceptions in the first half. That eliminated Carter and sent the other three to a tiebreaker.

After a ridiculously high field goal yardage total last week, this one came down a bit but was still high with four teams on a bye week. The total yardage was 1,991 for a nice little palindrome for all you math people out there. None of the three finalists guessed over the actual total but one guessed significantly under. Trent’s guess of 817 was below Stephen’s 1,789 and Jeff’s 1,666. By just 123 yards, Stephen pulled out the win and bumped Jeff down to second place.

Neither top two finishers were new winners as Jeff Johnson of Tumwater already finished in the top two with a win in week 8 but Stephen Gruginski continues to take up spots in the Postseason Tournament. This was Stephen’s first win but along with two second place finishes he has taken up three spots for a chance to win the Ticket Bonanza! That includes two tickets to the Mariners, Seahawks, Kraken, Sounders, Storm, Tacoma Rainiers, and Emerald Downs. Remember, even if you have already qualified you can block other people out of those spots by continuing to enter. However, you only get one submission into the Postseason Tournament regardless of how many times you finish in the top two.

DW was bad this week. After a promising week 11, he went back to being just abysmal as he had New Orleans winning a game somehow and also thought the Rams would fall at home to the banged up Buccaneers. This is honestly just getting sad. I don’t know how much more any of us can take of this. If this keeps happening, DW will end up with a job as an “expert” on one of these big networks.

A couple of upsets jumped off the page with Houston beating Buffalo and Dallas pulling off a crazy comeback over Philadelphia. Houston was slightly the larger upset with 10% picking the Texans while 19% of the contestants correctly chose Dallas in a divisional collapse by the Eagles.

Week 13’s contest is up. It is Thanksgiving on Thursday so the contest will be cutoff a little bit early as the first game starts at 10am. The deadline to get your entry in is 9am on Thursday this week so get signed up now. Congratulations Stephen and Jeff and best of luck to everyone this week.
