(Seattle, WA) Former Centralia Tiger and Seattle SuperSonic, Detlef Schrempf, will have his Washington Huskies jersey number retired this season. Schrempf and Christian Welp will both be recognized on Saturday during Washington’s football game against Oregon.

Schrempf will have a jersey retirement ceremony on February 28, 2026, when the Huskies host Wisconsin. Schrempf is one of the state’s most iconic athletes, playing in Washington for his high school, collegiate, and professional career. Schrempf helped lead the SuperSonics to the NBA Finals in 1996. He was the first European player to be the Sixth Man of the Year and to play in the NBA All-Star Game. Schrempf was inducted into the Husky Hall of Fame in 1995 and is still in Seattle, and remains an active figure in the community. Schrempf also helped lead Centralia to the AA State Championship in 1981.

Schrempf and Welp played together for two seasons and led the Huskies to the Sweet 16 in 1984 and another NCAA Tournament appearance in 1985.
