SUMNER, WASH
The Sumner Spartans began their 2025-26 season with a 58-36 victory over the Rogers Rams. Jerius Isabell led the Spartans in scoring with 14, while Cole Allen (12) and Goose Frederick (11) added double digit scoring for Sumner. For Rogers, Jakeem Richardson led the way in scoring for the Rams with 16 in the loss.
Connie Richardson began his fourth season as Head Coach of the Rogers program, while Bill Liley began his third year at the helm of Sumner. Last year both Sumner and Rogers had their seasons end one game away from the State Tournament.
The first half saw Sumner go on a 11-4 run late in the first quarter to take a 17-11 lead into the second quarter. Jakeem Richardson shined in the first quarter scoring 10 of Rogers’ 11 points. Jerius Isabell found his range early on for Sumner with a pair of 3’s. The second quarter was where Rogers rallied back to close the Sumner lead. Josh Steiger saw plenty of free throw attempts when Sumner quickly put Rogers in the bonus. All six of Steiger’s points in the second quarter came from the free throw line. Sumner led 28-24 at the end of the first half.
Sumner doubled up Rogers in scoring in the third quarter 14-7 to lead 42-31 after the third period. The Spartans jumped out to a 7-0 run to begin the fourth quarter to put the game firmly out of reach. Sumner cruised to a 58-36 win over Rogers.

Rogers returns to action next Friday night hosting Emerald Ridge. Sumner travels down the road that same night to Puyallup to face last year’s State Finalist.
Our Holiday Inn Express MVP of the Game was Goose Frederick with 11 pts and playing a pivotal role on defense for Sumner.
