We are into the month of December and playoff football is right around the corner. That also means there are not many opportunities left to win Professor DW’s Football Pick ’em Challenge and qualify for the Postseason tournament. Only 10 spots remained entering week 14 which was also the final week of byes. Some games with huge playoff implications took place and that meant that we saw a large variety of picks from our contestants this week.
Only Jennifer Kickner had double digits going into Monday night football between the Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Chargers. Jennifer picked the Chargers so if they won, she won outright. There were eight contestants with 9 points going into Monday night that picked the Eagles while Josh Kaiser and Declan Curran both had 9 and chose the Chargers. Los Angeles won in OT thanks to four interceptions thrown by Jalen Hurts so Jennifer got the win while Josh and Declan went to the tiebreaker for second.
Now these two were on very opposite ends of things this week. Josh once again went very high with his guess of 2,860 yards while Declan played it safe with a very low guess of 157 yards. The actual total this week was 1,957 yards and while it was high, it wasn’t as high as Josh’s guess. That put him over and Declan’s low guess paid off to give him the second-place finish.
Neither Jennifer or Declan had finished in the top two this season so for the first time since week 11 we had two new entrants into the Postseason Tournament. Jennifer is the second of the Kickner trio to qualify leaving just one so far out of the tournament. Declan is in his first year competing and he will have a shot at winning the Ticket Bonanza! That includes two tickets to the Mariners, Seahawks, Kraken, Sounders, Storm, Tacoma Rainiers, and Emerald Downs. Our total number of entrants is up to 23 with only eight spots remaining in the regular season. Remember, even if you have already qualified you can block other people out of those spots by continuing to enter. However, you only get one submission into the Postseason Tournament regardless of how many times you finish in the top two.
DW was back to being DW this week with a bad week. He only correctly predicted 7 of the 14 games correctly and made some very questionable decisions such as taking Dallas over Detroit as well as picking the Jets to beat the Dolphins. He would also swing and miss on almost every single toss-up game and DW’s losing streak continues to grow up to 49 weeks in a row. It is honestly impressive he hasn’t lucked into a win.
There were a few rare upset picks this week as Tennessee earned their second win of the season, knocking off Cleveland while Pittsburgh took control of the AFC North with a big win over Baltimore. However, only Dan Mohney and Jameela Parks predicted New Orleans to stun Tampa Bay on the road and create complete chaos in the race for the NFC South crown.
Week 15’s contest is up. The deadline to enter is once again 4pm on Thursday so get signed up ASAP. Congratulations Jennifer and Declan and best of luck to everyone this week.
