Jerius Isabell’s fourth quarter heroics lift the Sumner Spartans to a hard fought win over the Curtis Vikings.

Goose Frederick led Sumner in scoring with 13, while Curtis saw Noah Kaylor score a game high 19.

The game featured schools that had won three of the last four SPSL Championships. Curtis under went a changing of the guard in the offseason. David Adams replaced legendary head coach Tim Kelly.

With both teams coming in with 2-1 records in the highly competitive SPSL North, the value of a win goes a long way into establishing another deep run in postseason. The game began with Sumner jumping out to a 14-10 at the end of the first quarter. The Spartans saw a scoring balance with Parker Fiorito, Gavin Lee, and Cole Allen hitting first half three pointers to help Sumner maintain a first half lead. Curtis was engineered by Noah Kaylor, carrying the weight of scoring for the Vikings.

The second half saw Sumner acquire multiple double digit leads, with the deficit trimmed to as little as three at one point. Curtis saw contributions from William Torrone, Skylar Clement, Roman Kerkhoff, and Adam Kaylor. The third quarter ended with Sumner holding a 45-39 lead.

Jerius Isabell turned it up a notch in the fourth quarter. The sophomore tallied seven fourth quarter points to secure a Sumner win.

The 59-54 win for Sumner saw seven Spartans able to score. (Goose Frederick 13, Jerius Isabell 9, Cole Allen 8, Andy Hobson 7, Gavin Lee 5, Parker Fiorito 5, Owen Liedtke 4). Curtis saw junior Noah Kaylor score a game high 19 with contributions from (Skylar Clement 9, Roman Kerkhoff 8, William Torrone 6, Adam Kaylor 5, Taylor Smith 4).

The two teams play nonleague games on Saturday. Curtis hosts Skyview at 5pm, while Sumner heads to Auburn High School to play Enumclaw at 10am.
