SEATTLE, WASH

Nathan MacKinnon had two goals and an assist in the third period as the Colorado Avalanche rallied to defeat the Seattle Kraken 5-3.

The loss for Seattle is their third in a row and ninth in the last ten.

On top of MacKinnon’s two goals, Artturi Lehkonen, Samuel Girard and Brock Nelson scored for Colorado with Mackenzie Blackwood making 34 saves in the win.

Shane Wright, Jordan Eberle, and Chandler Stephenson scored for Seattle in the loss with Philipp Grubauer making 33 saves in the loss.

Colorado opened the scoring in the first period when Artturi Lehkonen tipped in a Martin Necas shot from the high slot at 12:19 for the only goal of the initial 20 minutes.

The second period saw Seattle score off rebounds from Mackenzie Blackwood. The first came from Shane Wright at 3:03 and the second from Jordan Eberle at 5:48. Colorado responded when Samuel Girard’s one time blast tied the game at two with 6:31 remaining in the second period. Chandler Stephenson converted a power play goal with a wrister by Blackwood with 36 seconds left in the middle frame.

Seattle led 3-2 heading into the third.

The third period saw the league’s prohibitive best team in the regular season showed just why they are in that status. 2:40 into the third, Nathan MacKinnon tied the game for the Avalanche.

Brock Nelson scored a power play goal at 8:25, to give the Avalanche a 4-3 lead. And then Nathan MacKinnon scored his second goal of the game, with the last light lamper into an empty net.

Seattle Kraken Head Coach Lane Lambert said postgame that the team played hard like they always do.

The Kraken head on the road to face the Calgary Flames Thursday at 6pm.
