(Seattle, WA) According to a report in the Puget Sound Business Journal, the Seattle Sports Commission has expressed interest in hosting the NFL Draft. The CEO of the Seattle Sports Commission, Beth Knox, said that they are looking between 2028 and 2030, but haven’t formally produced a bid.
Since 2015, the NFL has moved the draft around the country to various NFL cities. In the 90 NFL Drafts that have taken place, only three times has the draft been hosted west of the Mississippi River. In 2018, the draft went to Arlington, Texas, to be held inside AT&T Stadium, the home of the Dallas Cowboys. In 2022, the draft went to Las Vegas, Nevada, and the next year it went to Kansas City, Missouri. The next two years are set for the draft, with Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, hosting the 2026 draft and Washington, D.C., in 2027 draft.
Seattle has hosted the MLB All-Star Game in 2023, the 2024 NHL Winter Classic, and is set to host FIFA World Cup matches next summer. The city has also applied to host men’s Rugby World Cup matches in 2031 and women’s Rugby World Cup matches in 2033. With the possibility of reviving the Seattle SuperSonics sometime in the near future, Seattle could have an extremely busy decade of major sports.
