LOS ANGELES, CA
The Seattle Kraken capped off their California road trip by accomplishing something they hadn’t done since March 2024—winning the back end of a back-to-back. Seattle followed up a 3-1 victory over Anaheim with a 3-2 win against the Los Angeles Kings.
The Kraken entered their matchup with the Ducks shorthanded, as defenseman Brandon Montour joined Jaden Schwartz and Jared McCann on injured reserve.
Against Anaheim, Philipp Grubauer was outstanding, stopping 40 shots in the win. Captain Jordan Eberle scored twice, while Frederick Gaudreau added a goal for Seattle. Mikael Granlund tallied the lone goal for the Ducks, with Lukas Dostal making 18 saves. Kaapo Kakko recorded two assists for the Kraken.
Grubauer praised his team’s performance following the win, highlighting how the group was “on the same page.” The goaltender backed it up with his 40-save effort. Defenseman Vince Dunn, however, exited the game with an upper-body injury and did not return for the remainder of the road trip.
The following night, Seattle visited Los Angeles—a team the Kraken had previously beaten during a stretch in which they managed just one win in eleven games.
Joey Daccord made 35 saves as Eberle, Gaudreau, and Ben Myers found the back of the net for Seattle. Kevin Fiala and Andrei Kuzmenko scored for the Kings, while Phoenix Copley stopped 25 shots in the loss. All three Kraken goals came in the second period before Los Angeles mounted a late push. Seattle’s defense held firm to secure the 3-2 victory.
Seattle’s winning the back end of a back-to-back had not been seen since March of 2024.
The Kraken now sit three points out of a playoff spot, with the Philadelphia Flyers awaiting them at home on Sunday following the Christmas break.
