(Lakewood, WA) The Mount Tahoma Thunderbirds boys basketball team is hosting a Holiday Showcase beginning tonight at 5pm. Showcases are a minimum of 4 teams and can be up to 16 teams in one single day. The showcases allow teams that don’t normally get to play each other a chance to play outside of their area against teams that may be in different classifications to different areas of the state to even out of state teams.
The T-Birds Showcase features 3A and 4A schools and in the opening game at 5pm tonight will be the 3A Garfield Bulldogs from Seattle. The Metro league mainstays have gone through quite a shake-up with Head Coach Brandon Roy no longer leading the team and 1st year head coach Kabre Keller now in charge. The Bulldogs are off to a 1-3 start and looking to use this showcase to get some momentum rolling into league play.
The Bulldogs will take on the 4A Kennedy Catholic Lancers from the NPSL league and come in with a 4-4 overall record. The Lancers are coming off a pair of solid non-league wins over Eastside Catholic and Mount Si.
Game 2 tips off at 7pm with Lewis and Clark Tigers from Spokane a 4A school who competes in the Greater Spokane league and comes in with a 4-4 overall record. The Tigers have taken on all teams from the Eastside and this 2-day trip will give them a great chance to spread their wings and see where they are against some solid westside squads.
The Tigers will face the host Thunderbirds of Mount Tahoma. The T-Birds are off to a 2-2 start and would like to snap a 2-game losing streak after dropping close games to both Silas and Central Kitsap. This will be a great test for the host team.
Day 2 on Saturday
The schedule for Saturday has the same 4 teams but different match-ups. The 1st game is at 1pm with Lewis and Clark taking on Garfield and then at 3pm Kennedy Catholic battles with Mount Tahoma.
