He was the talk of the internet went to Nigeria to celebrate his accomplishment. While there, he and his friends went for a drive on the streets of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, where things took a tragic turn. The driver of the vehicle was trying to pass another car and made a wrongful overtaking maneuver while speeding and hit a parked car on the side of the road. Instantly, the car was smashed and crumpled into seemingly nothing. Joshua was on the side that was not directly impacted, but his friends were not. Both of his closest friends, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, died on impact, and Joshua was injured in the crash as well as the driver.

He is being held in a Nigerian court and has bail of 5,000,000 Naira (roughly $2500 USD). The case will be expanded on more on January 20th; until then, the case is adjourned. Anthony Joshua has been discharged from the hospital and has visited the funeral home where his friends had been taken. Joshua has not come out with a statement regarding the situation, but is said to have a heavy heart by Ogun and Lagos state officials.

As of right now, Joshua remains in Nigeria and has yet to make a statement as he grieves the tragic loss of his friends.
