(Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada) The Saint Martin’s Saints Women’s Basketball team was jumping back into GNAC action to start the 2026 portion of the schedule by traveling up north to Simon Fraser. The Saints got off to a scintillating start, more than doubling up the Red Leafs with a 25-12 first-quarter lead. The second quarter was a defensive one, but the Saints built on their lead as they took a 37-20 halftime lead into the break. Saint Martin’s outscored Simon Fraser 18-13 in the third quarter to go up 55-33 heading into the final frame. Simon Fraser outscored the Saints by four in the fourth, but Saint Martin’s would win 71-53.
Avery Oaster led the way with 20 points on 8-12 shooting and 4-5 from the free throw line. She also tallied eight rebounds, two blocks, and two steals. Laiken Hill added 19 points and three steals while Jada Travis had 13 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Saint Martin’s was 12-14 from the free throw line and had 14 steals as a team, and won big despite turning the ball over 24 times.
Saint Martin’s remains undefeated in GNAC play at 3-0 and is tied at the top of the standings with Western Washington. Central Washington is also undefeated in GNAC action at 2-0. The Saints are 7-5 overall, and Thursday’s win was their first true road win of the season. The Saints play Western Washington tomorrow in another big GNAC test.
