Silas 64, Mt Tahoma 8

(Tacoma, WA) The Silas Rams looked to push their way further through the PSL Narrows as they faced Mount Tahoma at home in a double header for both boys and girls. It was senior night for the girls’ team, with all the seniors’ families and friends coming out to support, and with emotional moments throughout the night. Silas capped off the day with a dominant win over Mt. Tahoma, moving to 10-7 and maintaining the third-place spot in the PSL Narrows.

Dezzy Rivera for Silas had been injured and in a brace for most of the season and was unable to play. This changed, however, in this game as she got the start while still injured and was allowed to be in the game for the first play. On the tip-off, she got the ball, and the seas parted, giving her a path to the basket. In the opening seconds, she walked over to the hoop and scored the first points of the game in an emotional moment for her, her teammates, and coaches.

From there, Silas went right to work and put on an impressive display of offense and defense. All the seniors scored in the first quarter, and there were seven different scorers on the night for the Rams. Mt Tahoma had four different scorers as well, but the defense of Silas proved to be too much, and that defense turned into offense on the other end of the floor. There were five different players for Silas who had eight or more points, showcasing the team’s depth and skill across the board.

All around, a great game from the Rams, who showed that when they are on, they can go up against anyone. With the win, Silas moves to 7-5 in the league and 10-7 on the year. Mt Tahoma showed flashes throughout the night, where they played solid basketball, but the shots weren’t falling, and the defense of the Rams proved to be too much. The Thunderbirds are now 2-13 on the year and 0-11 in league.

MVP and Stats

Our Sumner Holiday Inn Express MVP of the game went to Dezzy Rivera, who, despite only having two points, got the honor. After everything she had gone through during the season and missing her senior year due to injury, for her to come in and score the first points of the game and kickstart the night for the Rams swung the vote her way. An emotional moment that Rivera and the rest of the Rams will remember forever. Annique Smith finished the night with 21 points, Emerie Kennedy with 4, Olivia Tiggs with 8, Abigail Fuoco with 8, Jordin Palu-Pinkett with 10, and Aminah Mahmoud with 9. All four seniors for Silas scored multiple times throughout the game.

Mt Tahoma had a lower scoring night, but four Thunderbirds found their way onto the scoreboard. Ka’Reyah Lee, Karlie Hegg, Chris Melendez Marrero, and Aniyah Abdullah all finished with two points in the game.
