TACOMA, WASH

Mt. Tahoma 74 Gig Harbor 63

On senior night, the Mount Tahoma Thunderbirds leaned fully into the moment, playing only seniors for all 32 minutes and showcasing their resiliency in a 74-63 win over the Gig Harbor Tides.

Both teams entered the night with their postseason paths already determined. Gig Harbor was locked into the third seed in the Puget Sound League Narrows Division, while Mount Tahoma had been eliminated from postseason contention, sitting fifth in the division.

Gig Harbor jumped out early behind a strong first quarter from West Point commit Michael Masini, who scored 13 points to help the Tides take a 19-16 lead after one. Mount Tahoma answered behind senior Peter Pilcher, who scored 12 points in the first half as the Thunderbirds kept pace. The see-saw affair was deadlocked at halftime, 27-27.

Trouble arose for Mount Tahoma early in the second half when Pilcher picked up his third foul, limiting his minutes and forcing the Thunderbirds to adjust defensively against Masini. Gig Harbor capitalized, building a 41-34 lead with three minutes remaining in the third quarter.

That’s when senior Mikkah Cordero took control.

Over five Mount Tahoma possessions, Cordero delivered 11 points, a steal, and a block, sparking an 11–2 run to close the quarter. The surge was capped by an and-one finish from Cordero after forcing a Gig Harbor turnover, giving Mount Tahoma a 47-43 lead heading into the fourth.

In the final frame, senior guards Logan Walker and Zion Norman slammed the door. The highlight of the night came when Walker drilled an ankle-breaking three to extend the lead to 56-51, igniting the home crowd. Mount Tahoma never looked back, closing out the 74-63 victory while using only seniors for the entire game.

The Thunderbirds finish the season at 10-10 overall and 8-8 in Puget Sound League play. Gig Harbor now turns its attention to the district playoffs beginning next week.
