TACOMA, WASH

The SPSL Girls Basketball Championship is set following semifinal action Thursday night at Tacoma Community College.

Sumner continued its dominant league run with a 68-48 victory over crosstown rival Bonney Lake, while Olympia edged Rogers 43-36 to advance to the title game. The matchup marks a rematch of last season’s SPSL Championship, which Sumner won 49-35.

The Spartans have been nearly flawless in SPSL play this season. Sumner went a perfect 16-0 against league opponents, winning every SPSL game by double digits. That run included a 55-42 win over Olympia on January 13.

Olympia enters the championship after navigating a challenging league slate. The Bears dropped two South Division games earlier in the season to Spanaway Lake and Bonney Lake, but rebounded by winning every other SPSL contest outside of their loss to Sumner to finish 13-3 in league play. December 11, 2019 marks the last time Olympia defeated the Spartans.

The SPSL Championship Game is scheduled for Saturday at 6 p.m. at Tacoma Community College.

Earlier on Saturday, Puyallup and Bethel—who finished tied for third place in the SPSL standings—will square off at 2 p.m. at Tacoma Community College. Both teams have already secured berths in the District Playoffs. Puyallup won the teams’ first meeting of the season 50-40.
