FARGO, ND

North Dakota State announced Monday morning they are moving to the Mountain West Conference in football exclusively.

The fees for NDSU to make to make the move is roughly $12 million. This includes entering the Mountain West and entering FBS.

North Dakota State Athletic Director Matt Larsen said, “This is a historic day for NDSU Athletics. Our football program has earned this opportunity through the sustained success and leadership of our student-athletes and coaches past and present.”

The move is to take effect starting July 1st, where the Bison are set to play Mountain West opponents but won’t be allowed to play in any conference or post season games including the College Football Playoff for two seasons, barring a lack of bowl-eligible teams.

North Dakota State brings a heralded football legacy to the Mountain West having won 10 of the last 15 National Championships.

Other sports for North Dakota State will remain in the Summit League.
