(Tukwila, WA) The 2A/1A State girls Championships were rolled off this past weekend at Bowlero lanes in Tukwila. Day 1 on Monday the 30 individual bowlers who qualified joined the 12 5-person teams that qualified for both the team events and each member also compete in the individual competition. The individual competition was held and completed on Friday.
The teams took their team totals from Monday into the 2nd half of the team competition on Tuesday to the 14 game Baker format. The Baker format is where the teams bowl 1 game with 5 players. Bowler 1 will bowl the 1st and 6th frame, bowler 2 2nd and 7th and so on where each team member bowls 2 of the 10 frames.
2A/1A Tournament
Individual competition comes down to 2 Freshmen
A pair of Freshmen from the Greater St Helens league set-up a years long battle for the top spot in the 2A/1A Individual Championship for the next 3 years. Mila Davis of Columbia River came out smokin’ firi9ng a 236 and 222. She would finish the morning session with a 162 and halfway through the individual competition had the only 600 series of the tournament with a 620. She led freshman Zoey Jason of RA Long by 45 pins.
Jason was in 3rd place after the first 3 games with sophomore Samantha Stevens of Bremerton sandwiched in between with a with a 579 series. Stevens also showed she is not going anywhere for the next 2 years.
As the trio entered the second half of the day, that early lead that Davis built would prove to be too much to overcome although Jason made a big run falling just 14 pins short. Stevens also stayed in the running taking 3rd 47 pins behind Davis.
Davis began the 2nd half with a solid 184 while Jason made up 16 pins with her 2nd 200 of the day hitting 200 on the dot. Stevens meantime rolled her worst game of the day at 146 and fell further behind.
In the 5th game, Davis took almost all of those 16 pins back recovering 15 outscoring Jason 176-161. Stevens got back with a solid 163 but was too far behind and was looking to hold onto 3rd place.
With a 44 pin lead it would take a huge drop-off for Davis to get passed but she opened the door with her lowest scoring game of the day at 134. This opened the door for Jason to run her down and needed a 178 to tie and 179 for the win. Jason battled but ended up short by 14 pins with a 164. Davis finished with a total pin count of 1,144 to Jason’s 1,100. Stevens finished strong with a 179 clinching 3rd place knocking down 1,067.
For the next 2 and 3 years these three look to be battling it out for the Championship. The rest have a clear vision of where they need to get to if they want the individual Championship.
Senior Hailey Wright of RA Long was back in 4th place and was very consistent with a high game of 212 and low game of 155. Wright was a clear 4th and fell 29 pins short of 3rd place.
Battles for the minors
Following Wright there was a group of 5 bowlers who finished within 6 pins of each other. Hudson’s Bay Abby Schoonover and RA Long’s Maryn Smith tied for 5th with 1,009 pins and Schoonover won the bowl-off for the 5th place medal.
Kelisa “Kiki” Beck just missed making it a 3-way tie for 5th with a 1,008 total taking 7th place.
Then Claire Baker of Klahowya and Sanaa Tyler of Hudson’s Bay tied for 8th each with 1,003. Baker would win the 3 frame bowl-off for the 8th place medal.

RA Long Lumberjacks to a State Team Championship
The RA Long Lumberjacks led the GSHL who were looking to sweep all 4 team placing trophies at the 2026 Girls Bowling Championships. The Lumberjills placed 2nd last year to league rival Hudson’s Bay. The Lumberjills left no doubt this year and after day 1 it was a race for the minors as they blew out a 5,006 total pin count on day 1. They were the only team in all-classifications to top 5,000 on day 1 and led 2nd place Columbia River by 196 pins.
The 2nd place Rapids knocked down 4,810 and led the defending champs Hudson’s Bay Eagles by 121. Meantime, the Eagles held a healthy advantage of 4th place Klahowya by 250 pins. The Klahowya Eagles were standing in the way of 6th place Ridgefield and keeping the Greater St Helens League from sweeping all 4 trophies. Despite the Spudders moving into 5th place on day 2, Klahowya’s 400+ pin lead over the Spudders from day 1 was more than enough to take home the 4th place trophy.
Boat Race Baker Games
Day 2 of the 2A/1A tournament with the 14 Baker games was an old fashioned boat race. For those who don’t know what that means, in boat racing more times than not the way they start the race is the way they finish. The only difference on day 2 was Ridgefield moving up from 6th to 5th passing Bremerton and giving the GSHL the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th place team finishes.
The Lumberjills finished with a total of 7,182 and that was the top team score of all classifications beating both the 4A Champs Skyview and the 3A leader Walla Walla. This was the 11th state team appearance for RA Long and their 2nd Championship. But earning a trophy is not new for the Lumberjills as their 2nd Title is their 10th trophy from 11 appearances. They are now 2-2-3-3 in state team trophies.
Columbia River was making their 9th start at state and coming up just short has been a pattern they were trying to break but ended up with their 5th 2nd place trophy to go with 1 Championship and 1 4th place trophy. The Rapids are 7 of 8 in taking back hardware so when they get their team qualified they are always right in the think of things and with individual Champion Mila Davis, a freshman, coming back don’t be surprised if the Rapids build around that and are right back competing for a team title.
Hudson’s Bay celebrated their 1st ever Championship a year ago and came right back knocking on the door with a solid 3rd place finish. This was the Eagles first 3rd place trophy from their 7th state team tournament. They now have 1 Championship, 3 2nd and a 3rd in the Hudson’s Bay trophy case.
And the Klahowya Eagles are still in search of their 1st top 2 finish while earning their third 4th place trophy to go with their three 3rd place awards. This was Klahowya’s 13 state appearance and although they have never finished 1st or 2nd they have 6 trophies and the other 7 appearances they finished all 7 years in the top 8 making them one of the most consistent programs in the state.
