The postseason officially tipped off in the 2A District 4 girls basketball tournament on Wednesday night with 2 district pigtail games with the winners moving on to the district tournament and the losers having their seasons come to an end. The two loser out match-ups had Hockinson at Tumwater and Centralia traveled  to Washougal.

Tumwater 56, Hockinson 41

The 6-14 Hockinson Hawks were certainly the underdogs to the 12-9 T-Birds, especially since they played each other earlier this season and Tumwater posted a 30-pointy victory.

But if the T-Birds thought Hockinson was coming in to roll over they got a taste in the 1st half. The Hawks led after the 1st quarter 14-12 with 6 points from Charlotte Newton.

Tumwater responded in the 2nd quarter to pull ahead but had just a 3 point 23-20 lead. At the break Maesyn Williams led Tumwater with 10 and Anden Demaris added 7 with 4 rebounds. The T-Birds were getting plenty of steals and held the Hawks to just 6 2nd quarter points.

In the 3rd quarter, the T-Birds opened up the offense with their best quarter of offense of the game with 19 points while defensively holding the Hawks to single digits and led 42-27.

Hockinson matched their 1st quarter output in the final quarter but Tumwater also scored 14 as the T-Birds improved to 13-9 and advance to the district tournament. The T-Birds will play at Woodland on Friday with a 6pm tip-off.

Thorbeckes MVP

Anden Demaris earned the Thorbeckes MVP of the game. Demaris knocked down 15 points with 2 long balls, just missed a double-double with 9 rebounds and picked off 3 steals for a well rounded game. Maesyn Williams was the other one in the running as she led all scorers with 18, went 6 for 6 from line and had 5 steals.
