PUYALLUP, WASH

The Nisqually League entered into the final night of regular season with a bevy of scenarios in play. None of the six seeds to the District Tournament were decided, with the first through fourth seeds all in play for any of the four teams at the top. In Puyallup, sophomore Kyler Skogstad helped the Bellevue Christian Vikings secure the #2 seed in the Nisqually League with a 44-37 win over Cascade Christian. Bellevue Christian with the win assures themselves of a first round bye in Districts and a home playoff game next Tuesday night. Cascade Christian hosts Vashon Island on Saturday night in a loser out playoff game. Seattle Christian routed Annie Wright to come away with the #1 seed in the District Playoffs.

Bellevue Christian set the tone early, Andrew Nedwed drilled a pair of first quarter three-pointers to give the Vikings and early lead. Cascade Christian rallied with senior Borne Howerton lifting the offensive workload for the Cougars. Bellevue Christian led 10-6 after one quarter. The second quarter proved to exhibit more defense. Kona Resseau stepped it up a notch for Cascade Christian on his way to a double figure night. Cascade Christian led at the half 20-18.

Bellevue Christian jumped out of the gate in the second half on fire. The Vikings went on an 10-0 scoring run to open the half to take a 28-21 lead. Cascade Christian rallied with Cole Theiste hitting an and one three pointer to claw the Cougars back in the game. With the the Cougars roaring back, the Vikings turned to what their Head Coach Shawn Skogstad had learned time and time again from his father Hall of Fame Head Coach Larry Skogstad.

The Vikings came away with defensive stops when they needed it most. Bellevue Christian after taking the lead early in the second half did not look back. A Brett Henry 3-pointer in the waning moments left no room for doubt this was the Vikings’ night. At game’s end the Vikings came away with a valiant 44-37 win. Seattle Christian defeated Annie Wright 63-42, clinching the #1 seed for the Warriors due to a head to head tiebreaker over Bellevue Christian. But for Bellevue Christian, a first round bye secured gives them the weekend off, while the Cougars have to face a Vashon Island team that is prone to give the top teams in the Nisqually League trouble.
